WEEK 10: SEWING

FABRIC, CANVAS, THREAD, SEWING MACHINE, COTTON STUFFING

I made a stuffed plushie replica of Tony Tony Chopper’s hat from the anime One Piece. Originally I planend for the hat to be hollow and add Chopper’s iconic antlers. However, I couldn’t figure out how to get all the materials together to allow hte stuffed annimal to keep its shape. I instead simplified and created the hat with two pieces and a pattern I created. Seperating the top from the rim, I measured out my red fabric using simple math and circumference measurements. I then free hand cut the cross in the front out of canvas and sewed it on the center using the machine. I used YouTube videos to learn how ot make the hate a round 3d shape and began to sew. I had a couple of failed tries where I had to cut all the stitches and start over but eventually I got the hang of it. I then sewed the band to make a disk type pillow for the rim, stuffed it, and used a ladder stitch to hand sew the hole whilst keeping the thread hidden. I stuffed the top of the hat to the absolute fullest so that it would stand up straight and again, ladder stitched it down to the disk.
